FLEMING ISLAND – U.S. Rep. Aaron Bean announced he has secured a two-year paid position for a veteran or a Gold Star Family member at the Fourth District office on Fleming Island.

The program, Green and Gold, is open to veterans who’ve been honorably discharged or released from active duty within the last six years, with pay grades at or less than E-5, O-3 or W-2.

Veterans who were promoted to pay grades of E-6, O-4 or W-3 within six months of separation from active duty or are eligible, provided they meet all other eligibility requirements.

Veterans who receive a 20-year or Temporary Early Retirement Authorization (TERA) retirement are not eligible for the program. Gold Star applicants must be the spouse, parent, sibling, child or stepchild of a service member who died in the line of duty or died from a service-connected disability within four years of separation from the service.

The salary range for the Congressional Aide position is $55,000 to $67,000.

Anyone living in the Fourth District, which stretches from Fernandina Beach to Keystone Heights, is eligible to apply, but the job is based at Bean’s office at 4465 U.S. Highway 17, Suite 6, on Fleming Island.

The Green and Gold Congressional Aide Program was established to create employment opportunities for Veterans, Gold Star families and Active-Duty spouses within the U.S. House of Representatives. These positions provide Aides with the experience and exposure necessary to broaden their career opportunities. G and G CAP Aides may be assigned to Members, Committees or House Officers and will serve in Washington, D.C., or Member district offices across the country. These are two-year, paid, full-time employment opportunities.
Duties will vary depending upon the specific requirements for each office. Said duties may include, but are not limited to:

• Working as a constituent service representative

• Helping local constituents resolve issues with federal agencies

• Serving as liaison to local Veterans Service Organizations

• Attending local events and meetings on behalf of the Member of Congress

• Performing legislative work

Specific duties for each office will be discussed during the interview process.

To participate, you must be a veteran, Gold Star Family Member or a active-duty spouse and meet all the following requirements. No waivers will be granted.

Veterans

• Honorably discharged

• Released from active duty within the last six years

 Pay grades at or below E-5/O-3/W-2

• Veterans promoted to the pay grades of E-6/O-4/W-3 within six months of separation from active duty may be eligible if they meet all other requirements

• Veterans who are in receipt of a 20-year or Temporary Early Retirement Authority (TERA) retirement are not eligible for the program

Gold Star Families 

• A surviving spouse, child/stepchild, parent/step-parent, or sibling/step-sibling of a veteran who died in the line of duty while serving in the Armed Forces or from a service-connected disability.

Active-Duty Spouses 
Must be the spouse of an Active-Duty service member. Active-duty service members work full-time for the military. They are subject to permanent change of station or permanent change of assignment orders upon completion of each tour of duty.

Those subjects to Title X mobilization are not eligible

Additional Requirements
• Detail-oriented

• Excellent organization skills

• Strong computer skills

• Ability to complete projects within timelines and under minimal supervision

• Ability to work well under pressure and maintain a professional and courteous work disposition

• Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment in handling sensitive information

• Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously

• High School Diploma required

• Effective verbal and written communication skills are necessary

• Veterans must submit a Resume and DD-214 (Member COPY 4)

• Gold Star Family applicants require a Resume and one of the following:
••For members who died on active duty: DD-1300 or DD-2064, accompanied by a Line of Duty Determination

•• For members who died of service-connected disability: Last DD-214 issued to the veteran, and VA eligibility letter

•• Proof of dependency on the Veteran: DD-1172 (PAGE 2); OR
•• Proof of relationship (obituary, birth certificate, etc…) to the Veteran.
• Active Duty Spouses must submit a Resume and a copy of the front and back of the Dependent ID card
