FLEMING ISLAND – Keystone Heights High School junior golfer Camille Jackson knocked off four strokes on her second day of the JAGA First Coast Women’s Amateur golf championship to finish fifth overall Sunday at the Eagle Harbor Country Club.

“I hit 14 fairways for the second round which makes things a lot easier,” said Jackson. “I usually wind up with five or six and have to scramble to get the ball back into play.”

Jackson, a three time Class 1A golfer for the Indians, finished with a second round 72 (Even) score to better her first round 76 (4-over) and keep her in the top 10 with a 148 total.

In her first round, Jackson hit for two birdies; both in her second nine holes after a near-disaster first nine with four bogies (one over par) giving her a 40 to start the tournament. In the second nine holes, Jackson regrouped and hit two birdies to get back into contention with a 36 to finish at 76.

In Sunday’s round, Jackson was rock solid with nine pars to open then two birdies erasing out two bogies to finish at par at 72. Jackson’s two birdies came on holes 16 and 17 with 18 going par to finish with a slight surge to the finish.

“I have a new coach and have been working on my irons which with my strong fairways makes getting to the green in one or two shots a lot better for scoring pars and birdies,” said Jackson. “At the end, I knew I could go two under and finished with the two birdies and a par.”

Winner Tori Mouton, just 15 years old and a Bolles sophomore who finished 24th in Class 1A last year ironically tied with Jackson, finished at 142 (2-Under par) with a first round 72 and a second round 70 to best runneruup Emily Felix, a freshman from Lake Mary High School and now at Lee University in Tennessee, who finished even at 144 (73, 71). Felix finished 21st in Class 3A two years ago for Lake Mary. Mouton has two tournament wins in 2019 with first place finishes at the Junior Azalea Tournament in Palatka in March and the Sole Open at Fleming Island Golf Club in February.

Sophie Membrino, a Samford University freshman from Ponte Vedra High School who was 12th in Class 2A as a senior and third as a junior, was third at 146 with fourth placer Sara McKevitt, a sophomore at University of North Florida and a 14th place finisher for Ponte Vedra High in 2016, also at 146. Jackson was tied with Elizabeth Condel with both scoring 148.

Also in the field were Fleming Island High School graduates Sarah May, now at Stetson University, and Lauren Waidner, now at the University of Florida. May finished ninth with a 152 total (77, 75) with Waidner 16th at 163 (86, 77).

May had just one birdie for the two-round event with Waidner getting four bogies on her hometown course with three birdies; all in the second round.
