Indians golf takes Celtic Invite

OCALA – With junior Camille Jackson punching in with a two over par 74 score, the Keystone Heights High School girls golf team notched a team win at the prestigious Celtic Invitational in their season opener on August 17.
Keystone Heights, coached by Billy Jackson, scored a team total of 329 to outpace Bishop Verot at 335. Sixteen teams competed in the tournament.
Top score was a tie at 72 for first place with two tied at 73 and Jackson tied with two golfers at 74.
For the Lady Indians, Sloane Siebert hit a plus seven 79 for 13th with Candace Jackson scoring a 10-over 82 for 18th the top three Keystone Heights golfers.
Bishop Verot stayed pace with Keystone Heights with three golfers; one at 4-over and two at 5-over, but two golfers at 33-over and 37-over deciding the score.
“Right now, we have five golfers that will finish pretty close to each other out there,” said Billy Jackson, who has ushered daughter Camille Jackson to the Class 1A championship meet the past three years. “We missed by 20 strokes last year of taking the team to state and that will be our goal this year.”
Finishing out the Indians scoring were Ashton Ludwig at 20-over 92 and MJ Rivera at 32-over 104.
Statistics-wise, Keystone Heights led all teams with seven birdies.

Eagles golf defeats district
rival Creekside


FLEMING ISLAND – The FIHS boys’ golf team defeated district rival Creekside yesterday with a 163-170 win in a match held at the Champions’ Club of Julington Creek. Leading the way for the Golden Eagles were Sophomore Andrew Davis and Freshman Colton Swartz, each of whom shot a 3-over par 39.
Junior Chris Ostrow shot a 42 and then its a ‘pick-em’ between who you choose next as the remaining three players, Sophomores Jamie Adams, Andy Lonsdale and Enrique Trabal, all shot a 43. The win runs the team record to 3-0 with a 2-0 mark in district matches.
