CLAY COUNTY – The winter holidays are right around the corner and there’s a good chance either you or someone in your family plays games.
We’ll break down some of the best video game purchases you could make this holiday season to make shopping for that special someone that much easier.

Video game accessories
Video games are great, but so are the accessories players often need to actually engage with the game. Below are some of our favorite picks for video game accessories to pick up this holiday season. Each of our picks below can be found in stores like Walmart, Target, GameStop, Best Buy and online.
PlayStation 5 DualSense controller
The DualSense is the new Sony-made controller for the company’s latest console, the PlayStation 5. It’s a revolutionary controller featuring built-in haptic feedback and adaptive triggers that make playing games more immersive than ever before. This controller sells for $69.99 and while the PlayStation 5 comes with one controller, having a second on hand makes playing some of the games on this list even better.

PlayStation 5 Pulse 3D audio headset
This is the newest headset for the PlayStation 5 and it’s perfect for players wanting a superb audio experience on a budget. The PS5 is great with sound systems, sound bars, and home theater setups. Those, however, are quite expensive, but with the Pulse 3D headset, you’ll get all the features of a $1000-plus audio system – 7.1 surround sound, 3D audio, and dynamic range to name a few – for just $99.99.

Xbox Series S/X controller
The Xbox Series S and Series X are finally out and both come with a single packed-in controller. This controller is easily the Xbox's best. It features a ton of grip for those late-night gaming sessions, adaptive triggers that feature rumble vibrations to immerse you further into the game, and one of the best shape forms in videogame history. Simply put, it’s one of the best controllers ever made and if the person you’re buying for wants to play cooperatively with others, they’re going to need a second controller. You can buy a second for $59.99.

Video games
There’s nothing better than opening that rectangular present under the tree only to find it’s that new game you’ve been wanting to pick up for days, weeks, or even months. Well, if you’re me at least. I love video games and play basically any that interest me on the day of their release. Don’t judge because it’s this addiction, err hobby, that makes me the perfect person to let you know which games to pick up for your loved ones this holiday.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales
Spider-Man: Miles Morales is the latest game from Insomniac Games, the development studio behind 2018’s Spider-Man, which is one of the PlayStation 4’s best games. Miles Morales is a pseudo-sequel that takes you out of Peter Parker’s suit and into that of Miles Morales. Much like 2018’s Spider-Man, it features an amazing soundtrack, incredible combat, New York City-wide swinging that truly makes you feel like Spider-Man, and a story that will have you reaching for tissues by the end of it. If your special person loves Spider-Man, Marvel, and superheroes, this is a must-play.
It comes with a $50 price tag.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War
Whether you play games or not, you likely know what Call of Duty is, or you’ve at least heard of it. It’s the umpteenth game in the decades-long series and it’s one of the best military shooters out there. Featuring the lightning-fast gunplay that make the series so standout, with beautiful visuals to boot, this entry in the series takes place in the 1980s during the height of the Cold War.
Its story is short, bombastic and fun, and its multiplayer is as good as last year’s Call of Duty, the one before that, and the one before that. It’s more Call of Duty multiplayer basically and that means hours and hours of fun.
You can pick this game up for $60 on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 or $70 on Xbox Series S and Series X and PlayStation 5.

Fortnite V-Bucks card
If you’re child plays video games, there is a very good chance they play Fortnite. It’s one of the biggest games in the marketplace and that’s due in part to its free-to-play nature, meaning it’s free to download and play. The company behind Fortnite, Epic Games, makes its money by selling cosmetic costumes for your character and other things like that. To buy these costumes and skins, you must spend real-world money.
If you want to make your child happy, go to your nearest GameStop and purchase a Fortnite V-Bucks card. This gives them the ability to load the V-Bucks into their account and purchase whatever skins or costumes they’d like to buy. It might sound silly, but trust me: your Fortnite-playing child will absolutely want V-Bucks this holiday season.

Xbox Game pass subscription
Xbox Game Pass is a Netflix-like subscription service that costs anywhere between $9.99 and $14.99 a month. After signing up, you’ll gain access to over 100 games in the Game Pass queue. All you need to do to play any of these games is hit the download button. The game is yours to play once it’s finished downloading. This service really is the Netflix of games and $14.99 is a lot easier to swallow than the price of a $60 or $70 game.
