GREEN COVE SPRINGS – U.S. Rep. Aaron Bean joined City and county officials on Saturday, Sept. 21, to re-open historic Walnut Street. One of the iconic thoroughfares in the city which will celebrate its 150th birthday in several weeks, was redesigned with wider sidewalks, better lighting, landscaping and drainage. The original bricks were replaced to complete the $3.1 million Phase 1 portion of the project. Phase 2 is estimated to cost $2.7 and the work was partially funded by gas tax, surtax and the American Rescue Plan Act funds. The event included Walnut Street businesses, food trucks, vendors and activities.
