In Mosley, with both teams locked at 7-7 at halftime, Broughton and Fleming Island running back Dehmir Jackson exploded to put 28 points on the board in the third quarter with Broughton putting three touchdowns on the board; one a 63-yarder. Jackson opened the third period with a score to break the deadlock.
In the first quarter, after a punt that put Fleming Island at the 50, Broughton got through for a sprint to the 20 before Broughton faked to Jackson going left and literally jogged into the end zone for the first score of the night at 5:18 in the first quarter.
Mosley answered quickly with a 50-yard pass play for a score to running back Samuel Chisolm on a wheel route to tie the score.
In the third, from the 50, Fleming Island got a first down pass to wideout Trace Burney to the 40 before Broughton again broke away to the Mosley 20 to set up a score from Jackson who blasted off left tackle.
Mosley answered again with a strong run through the middle of the Fleming Island defense to the Eagle 15 before Freitas hit wide receiver Jack Massey for the tying score with 8:01 left in the third.
Broughton used just two plays; one a 25-yard pass to Burney, before ripping the left sideline for a 63-yard go-ahead score with 7:01 still in the third.'
Mosley got tagged with a pass interference flag on a pass to Oliver Piechota in the end zone to set up a 25-yard field goal from Parker Sirdevan. Sirdevan's kick went left, but flags flew on the play to put Fleming Island's offense back on the field. Three plays later, Broughton skirted in to put Fleming Island up 28-14.
Just before the end of the third, Broughton found Burney for a 40-yard pass catch at the Mosley eight-yard line. Broughton jogged in for the score to 35-14 into the fourth quarter.
In the first minute of the fourth, Freitas hit Massey again for a 10-yard score to put the game at 35-21.
Freitas and Massey connected again from the Mosley one to midfield before running back Lokavian Jackson, a Mississippi State commit, ripped a 50-yarder to put the game at 35-28 with four minutes left to go.
With the Golden Eagles leading 35-28, they punted to Mosley, giving the Dolphins one last opportunity for a comeback. The offense methodically moved down the field, but with no timeouts, the clock became a relentless enemy. Clutch receptions by Carson Griffin and Jaden Sapp pushed Mosley into the red zone. However, three consecutive running plays ended their hopes, bringing their season to a close.
"It was a horrendous call and entirely my fault," said Mosley head coach Tommy Joe Whiddon. "I didn’t give us a chance to win in a critical situation...terrible playcalling, terrible coaching. We should have thrown the ball."
A trio of rushing touchdowns from quarterback Cibastion Broughton fueled the Golden Eagles' running game, which was potent in various ways.
Tied 7-7 at the half, the Golden Eagles deployed fakes and run options with Broughton and running back Dehmir Jackson putting the Dolphins defense on its heels.
The duo combined for over 250 rushing yards and five scores.
