FLEMING ISLAND - Calling all yogis!
A new yoga spot is set to make way on Fleming Island soon, and it’s more than meets the eye.
Fit and Flow, located on East West Parkway, is an all-inclusive yoga, barre and pilates studio that offers fitness programs for both young and old.
Founder Julea Strubeck, who has over a decade of experience in the fitness realm as a certified Zumba Gold and Aqua Zumba instructor, is excited to bring this new venture to the county.
She said the idea came to be when she realized the lack of all-inclusive studio options available locally.
“[On] Fleming Island, we only have one yoga studio, we have one barre studio, and we have one pilate [studio],” Strubeck said. “So, I was like, why don’t I open one [and] include all of these.”
As the only fitness studio in Fleming Island to provide a one-stop shop for a complimentary childcare center, children’s yoga and senior yoga classes, Strubeck said they want to make healthy living convenient for everyone.
“I realized also, there’s not much for senior citizens here to do,” Strubeck said. ”Because every class that I went [to] was designed for young people. So, I feel like some older people will like to go somewhere and connect, but also care for themselves and have better health.”
Whether it’s power yoga to strengthen the body, candlelight yoga to wind down after a long day, meditative sound baths, chair yoga for those with limited mobility or classic barre fusion for those looking for some cardio, Strubeck said the studio has it all and has many instructors to choose from.
The studio will also introduce prenatal and postpartum yoga for new and expecting mothers to connect.
As an instructor and personal trainer, Kaila Wright has been practicing yoga for the past eight years. Wright said working as a labor and delivery nurse and recently becoming a mom inspired her to create a program geared toward others like her.
She said after childbirth, there is a lot of healing that needs to be done, emotionally and physically. The classes aim to help with that and will suit all levels.
“There’s just such a void in the world taking care of not only pregnant women but also women who are postpartum,” Wright said. “We’re just expected to be home with our babies for a few weeks and return to work. Or, have everything put on us while Dad returns to work.”
Currently, the studio is in its soft opening phase, hosting various initial classes ahead of its grand opening on November 18.
Strubeck and Wright said they welcome all to come try it out.
“That’s our hope. To definitely make the community better,” Strubeck said. “That’s what I’m here for.”
