ORANGE PARK – The Fisherman’s Dock Seafood Market crew arrived hours before their opening on Christmas Eve to fill large call-in orders for people who observe the annual Feast of the Seven Fishes. The Italian American Christmas Eve celebration involves a large seafood dinner based on ancient Catholic traditions of abstinence from meat before the holy days, such as Christmas. The tradition is believed to have started in Sicily, where fish is plentiful. Many customers arrived at the popular seafood market on Park Avenue in Orange Park with coolers to take home assortments of fish, oysters, scallops, clams, crab legs, shrimp, lobsters and squid for calamari, keeping manager Lydia Bishop and co-workers David Chocin, Hannah Palmrose and Scott Flynn busy until closing time.
