CAMP BLANDING – Service members were praised again for their service Monday during the annual Family Day at Camp Blanding Joint Training Center. In addition to the traditional opening that included remarks from Post Commander Col. Todd Hopkins and Keynote Speaker Sheriff Michelle Cook, the event included displays from the post's museum, the post’s World War II aircraft, vehicles and weaponry displays, veteran organization vendors and hot dogs and hamburgers served at World War II prices – hot dogs for a quarter, hamburgers for 50 cents. Cook thanked adults for bringing children to expose them to the history and significance of veteran service. She also highlighted Clay County’s commitment to veteran’s mental health services. Former NAS Jacksonville Commander Howard Wanamaker and Camp Blanding Post Commander Matt Johnson also attended. The Camp Blanding Museum is open daily from noon to 4 p.m.
