Faith Walk: Remember… Why Jesus Came!

The whole point of Christmas can be lost in the “season” if we don’t remember why Jesus came. Presents aren’t the only things that get wrapped up this time of year. We can easily get so wrapped up in the commercial aspects of the season and our traditions, we can quickly miss the entire purpose of Christmas!

The season is about so much more than gifts, beautiful lights, shopping, or even time with family. Christmas is all about the defining moment of human history when God enacted His plan to bring salvation to the world through Jesus Christ.

Author and Pastor Tim Keller said, “Jesus didn't come to tell us the answers to the questions of life, he came to be the answer.”

So, this Christmas don’t forget why Jesus came. He came to live for 33 years fully man and fully God. By living a perfect and life, He was able to defeat sin and death once and for all. He became sin although He knew no sin that we could be made right with God.

2 Corinthians 5:21 says, “For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.” Without Jesus, we’d be forced to face eternal separation from God because of our sins!

His birth prepared the way for God’s rescue plan for every man and woman from 2000 years ago until now, and for all time. In John 12:46, Jesus clearly announces His purpose: “I have come as a light to shine in this dark world, so that all who put their trust in me will no longer remain in the dark.”

Not only does Jesus’ sacrifice bring us eternal salvation, but it also brings us immeasurable hope in the present. We live in a dark and troubling world, but the love and light of God shines brightly through our relationship with Jesus.

God has given us the most precious, priceless, and irreplaceable gift we could ever receive this season: the free gift of salvation through Jesus Christ. All we need do is accept it! So, this Christmas season remember why Jesus came, and invite Him into your heart. Merry Christmas!
