God has given those of us He’s called to parenthood a blessed and irreplaceable gift. Being a parent should reflect the heart and character of our Father in heaven. As He guides, teaches, and nurtures us, we should do likewise for our children. While meeting our children’s needs and teaching them life skills are important things to do, so too is the nourishing of their souls. We live in a dark and fallen world, so it’s necessary we speak the truth of God’s love into their hearts so it can illuminate their lives.
There are many voices competing for the attention of your children. As your child goes out into the world, they will hear many things from the culture, as well as teachers, friends, relatives, television, the internet, and more. All these people and things have an influence on the development of your child.
So, ask yourself this question: do you want your child’s worldview to be shaped by the godly things they learn from you? Or - the multitude of worldly things they’ll encounter in today’s culture? When you boil it down, it’s simple: what we say matters!
Speak the truth of God’s Word into their lives! In doing so, you will help them start a personal and intimate relationship with God. When your child knows God, you can rest assured that God will lead them through life, even in the moments you can’t. Psalm 37:23 says, “The LORD directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives.” When you speak God’s truth into your child’s life, you can rest assured God is near them.
Isaiah 64:8 says, “LORD, you are our Father. We are the clay, and you are the potter. We all are formed by your hand.” God plays an inseparable role in the development of your child. Speaking God’s truth into their life will open them up to God’s presence, allowing Him the ability to enter their hearts and shape them into a powerful child of God.
Speaking God’s truth into your child’s life is the most vital thing you can do to ensure their future spiritual maturity and salvation in Jesus.
