Angels are otherworldly beings that we read about in the Bible. They are close to God and work in service to Him. While their exact nature is never revealed to us, we know that they are powerful, and righteous. Angels are wholly devoted to serving God and completely subject to His authority.
Whenever they arrive in a biblical story, they bring a message from God with them. Sometimes these messages are comforting, other times they are challenging. But one thing is clear: when an angel shows up, they have something important to say, and their message comes directly from God Himself.
So many stories pop up in the media or even from friends and family members about how angels have intervened in real-life situations. You’ve likely heard one of these stories yourself! Sometimes, it can be very challenging to determine what to make of these stories. Were they just convenient strokes of luck or did God truly send angels to intervene?
Do angels of God truly watch over us? That’s a question that has been on the hearts and minds of so many people throughout generations, and it’s a tough one to answer! As in everything, it’s important we turn to Scripture to find a biblical understanding of this topic.
Psalm 91:11-12 says, “He will order his angels to protect you wherever you go. They will hold you up with their hands so you won’t even hurt your foot on a stone” (NLT). I believe this makes it quite clear that God does indeed send angels to watch over our lives. While that part of the question is clear, we don’t really know how they watch over us or what exactly they do.
But that’s okay! That’s why we live by faith. 2 Corinthians 5:7 says, “We walk by faith, not by sight.” (ESV) The rest of the details just may not be for us to know at this time. After all, He is God, Creator of the universe, and we are mere mortals for a reason. But rest assured, God loves you and is watching over your life according to His goodness, love, righteousness and sovereignty! You can out your full trust and confidence in Him!
