It’s another summer season! Here in Florida, pool parties and beach trips are common. Families can spend more time together. Parents and their children make new memories together.

Parenthood is a beautiful thing. We should celebrate it and allow it to be a reminder to slow down, extend love, and marvel in the beauty of God’s design. Just as God brought forth humanity in His image from an overflow of His love, He gives us the ability to share in His work and bring life into this world.

Psalm 103:13 also shows us that parenthood reflects God’s very character. It reads, “The Lord is like a father to his children, tender and compassionate to those who fear Him” (NLT). There is a deeper and even more beautiful truth behind God’s design for parenthood.

Genesis 1:27 says, “So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God He created them; male and female He created them.” (NLT)

We are His children, and He cares for us as our Father. But being made in His image means He shares with us aspects of His nature. He has given us the immeasurably beautiful gift of being able to bring forth life! Not only that, but just as God brought forth life from an overflow of His life, His method for us to bring children into this world involves the love between spouses! How beautiful!

Once our children are here, we watch over them, raise them, and care for their every need. Sound familiar? Yes, that’s exactly what God does for us! So, in the bringing forth of children and in raising them, we are joining in God’s work and reflecting His character in our own lives. How amazing is that?

Keep this truth at the forefront of your heart and mind. Let it inspire you and give even deeper meaning to your parenting (as well as love and respect for your parents). Parenthood is sacred work and reflects God’s very nature. That’s why we must give our all in this responsibility! In doing so, we honor and please God. Show your children some “extra” love today!
