“Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of God belongs to those who are like these children. I tell you the truth, anyone who doesn’t receive the Kingdom of God like a child will never enter it.” (Mark 10:14-15)
When we think of children’s behavior, we often think of their immaturity, compulsiveness, and misbehaving. This is not what Jesus is speaking to when He says we must be childlike in our faith.
Consider the beautiful nature of a child’s heart for a moment. They trust, rely on, and love their parents, guardians or caretakers unconditionally. They have confidence in them and are eager to learn. Even when they disobey, they ultimately trust and follow their parents. This is because they know deep down their parents care for them and always want to do what’s best for them.
This is exactly the posture God desires that we’d take with Him! He wants us to trust, rely on, and love Him unconditionally. He wants us to know that we can follow Him in every aspect of our lives because He is our loving Father and always wants nothing more than to do what’s best for us. This is what it means to have childlike faith.
We should look to God in everything. We should give Him the entirety of our hearts, minds, and love. He will stop at nothing to love, protect, and guide us through everything in life. We can trust in Him to do all of that and so much more.
Seeing God in this way and living out a childlike faith will lead us straight to the Kingdom of God, where we will spend all of eternity by His side. Cast aside the distrusting, self-sufficient, and jaded aspects of our adulthood that have blinded us from a true, childlike faith in Jesus.
Embrace the heart of a child in your relationship with God, and He will lead you straight into His arms. In His arms you will find protection, peace and rest.
