Faith Walk: Easter is Here!

Easter is here, and that’s a beautiful thing! It’s a time that we celebrate family, spring, and Jesus. While it’s always pleasant and brings its own wonderful traditions every year for so many of us, Easter is SO much more than that. Easter is one of the most powerful and important days on the entire Christian calendar. Why? Because it marks the day of Jesus’ resurrection, the very foundation of the hope of the Christian faith.

1 Peter 1:3-4 reads, “All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is by his great mercy that we have been born again, because God raised Jesus Christ from the dead. Now we live with great expectation, and we have a priceless inheritance—an inheritance that is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay.”

This is the hope of our faith: that even though we all will die a physical death, if we walk with Jesus in this life, we will be raised to eternal life in the next. As 1 Peter tells us, this is an inheritance to those of us who believe, and it’s something that no one can ever take away. God’s promise of eternal life through Jesus all stems from the amazing event that took place on the first Easter Sunday Jesus rising from the grave. Our culture celebrates Easter in captivating ways, with bunnies, flowers, and bright pastel colors. While all these things are fun, beautiful, and enjoyable, we must not let them distract us from the true message and hope of Easter. The enemy would rather have us focus on the worldly aspects of the season instead of the true significance of this day.

Why? Because if we do, the season will come and pass without us truly experiencing the change the resurrection stirs in us. If we focus on the bunnies, flowers, and bright spring colors, we won’t harness the power God has given us Christ. The message of Easter couldn’t be any more foundational or critical to our faith. No matter what traditions you enjoy during this season, make sure each and every one of them is centered on the truth and hope of Jesus’ resurrection. Let this Easter be a time that enriches our faith in every way. Happy Easter!
