CLAY COUNTY – President Donald Trump has been impeached for a second time by the House of Representatives, and the generally Republican Clay County sees the process as waste of time and effort in the federal government.

Trump’s impeachment came days before the end of his term. He was not charged during the Senate trial after the first impeachment and it’s still a question of whether or not he’ll be charged during the trial for the second one, but Clay Today readers view all of this as a waste of time.

“I think it’s a waste of time, money and effort,” Tammy Roberts said. “We need to be focused on our country, not a person leaving office in days.”

Patrick Baller said the only reason to impeach is so Trump can’t run again in 2024. A president charged by the Senate in their post-impeachment trial is barred from running for federal office ever again, and they also lose access to a number of post-presidency benefits like expenses, secret security and more. Baller said this also is a waste of taxpayer money.

Missy Leilani called it ridiculous and Larry Cross said it’s “another pointless (Democratic) stunt.

“It’s a big waste of our money and everybody’s time,” Janet Brooks said. “Instead, they should get busy working to fix the real problems in this country – getting businesses open again and people back to work. Everybody needs to stop the finger-pointing blame game and get busy.”

Teri Hartley said impeachment is a “waste of taxpayer dollars” and that’s it shown her Congress and the Supreme Court need term limits.

But there are those that believe Trump should have been impeached and should be charged by the Senate as a result of what happened at the Capitol Building the first week of January though.

Teresa Sanday said she believes Trump incited insurrection at the Capitol, something she said a leader should never do. She said his leadership status should be canceled as a result.

Fey said Trump should be impeached and charged for the lies she believes he’s made during his presidency.

“Yes, Clinton was impeached for [a sexual act] and lying about it [to a grand jury],” Fey said. “Trump has lied his whole way through his presidency.”

Where do you fall on Trump’s second impeachment? Was it the right call? Was it the wrong call? Was it a waste of taxpayer money? Let us know what you think on the official Clay Today Newspaper Facebook page and keep an eye out for this week’s Facebook Question of the Week.
