Eagles soccer remains undefeated

FLEMING ISLAND - Fleming Island High's boys soccer team has jetted to an unbeaten start with a 4-0-1 record under the tutelage of first year coach Roger Dailey and the Golden Eagles are playing fast and furious soccer with wins over area powerhouses Creekside and Fletcher. Creekside wound up a 0-0 tie.
"Creekside was awesome; a really good team," said Dailey, noting Fleming Island has not beaten Creekside in the past five years. "Their coach, Cameron Campbell, was an excellent player himself, but they were so good in the box."
Dailey's insertion as the newest Fleming Island head coach with Michael Green coaching the past few years was a testament to Dailey's community wide presence as a soccer coach at the school level and the club level.
"I've coached most of these kids at the club level and also at the junior high level," said Dailey. "I think the hire was a matter of being able to hit the ground running and really get what looks like a good start right from git-go."
Dailey also has coached at Fleming Island High previously with his son's playing under coach Frank Pontore and even Green.
"I wanted to come in and build on the principles that coach Frank Pontore had here because the guy won state titles here," said Dailey, who has his youngest son, Ryker, on the team presently. "My part is to add a little more front foot on the attack and give our offense a full time frontal assault; like throwing four or five guys up front making runs to the goal."
Dailey's full on attack on enemy goalkeepers has put three games with eight goals on board and a 3-1 win over Fletcher.
"For me, you live by the sword or die by the sword," said Dailey. "We should be attacking and swarming balls on the other end of the field, that's fun. We change guys in and out and everyone has played every game so far."
On the scoring front, Dailey likes one stat.
"We have seven guys with scores; seven with assists already," said Dailey. "My goal is everyone contributes. I want everyone to have a chance to score."
Fleming Island has a rough schedule coming with Beachside (4-1), Buchholz (4-1) and Mandarin (3-0) coming.
"I don't care too much if the other team scores," said Dailey. "I like the shootouts because I think we can outscore anyone."
Scoring wise, Fleming Island has six goals apiece from sophomore Ryker Dailey and senior Ethan Medlock with Daniel Vizcarrondo adding another five.
