FLEMING ISLAND - Fleming Island High volleyball opened their volleyball district 4-8A slate with one loss; a 3-2 decision to Gainesville Buchholz and one win; a 3-1 win over Creekside with Bartram Trail and Oakleaf to come in the week of Sept. 4-6.
Fleming Island is now 3-1 overall, 1-1 in district play.
Against Buchholz (4-1) on Tues., Aug. 28 with game scores of 21-25, 25-22, 15-25, 25-23 and 9-15.
Fleming Island was led in scoring shots by Rayna Durden with 14, Jazmine Robinson with 11 and Madison Mas with 12.
Bartram Trail has wins over 7A-St. Augustine, 8A-Creekside and 6A-Ridgeview and features 6’-6” center hitter Alexia Kuehl who leads the Lady Bears with 25 kills in three games.
Fleming Island was limited to just 13 serving aces for the match with three players; Kailey DiPaula, Ramirez and Kailee Stover all recording three aces apiece. DiPaula got 49 assists for the match.
On the defensive side, Durden and Natalie Broussard both had four blocks.
Against Creekside (2-2), a district win with game scores of 25-10, 25-22, 16-25 and 25-20, the Golden Eagles were led at the net by Durden and Mas who both hit for eight scoring shots. Coach Amy Walker added some new names to the roster in the match with freshman Maya Walker adding seven kills and seniors Lyara Rosario and Jillian Jackson getting six and five kills apiece. Rosario added five service aces to lead the team.
Fleming Island travels to unbeaten Bartram Trail on Tues., Sept. 4 with a road trip to Oakleaf (4-1) on Thurs., Sept. 6.
