Dressel about to attack World Championships again

GREEN COVE SPRINGS – Clay High superstar swimmer Caeleb Dressel is three weeks away from taking on the defense of his world championship medals after wins in the 100 butterfly, 100 freestyle, 50 freestyle, and a fifth in the 200 freestyle at the Fran Crippen Swim Meet of Champions held June 20-23 in Mission Viego, CA.

“No complaints, it’s been pretty rough the past couple of months,” said Dressel in an interview from Mission Viejo on Swimswam.com. “I just have to stay focused. It’s not where I want to be, but we’ll go home and make adjustments and get better.”

Dressel, gold medalist in seven events at the 2017 World Aquatics Championship in Budapest, recently spoke about his preparations for the world championships to be held in Gwangju, South Korea.

Dressel recently clocked his fastest 100 free since the summer of 2017 in a Tyr Pro Series meet in Indianapolis before unleashing a meet record in the 100 fly in the Mission Viego event in June.

Thus far, Dressel has transitioned to being a professional swimmer with just two wins in seven tries since the 2017 meet.

In the world rankings for 2019, Dressel is at sixth in the 50 free at 21.69 with Brazil’s Bruno Fratus first at 21.47; fourth in the 100 free at 47.86 with Russia’s Vladislav Grinev first at 47.43 and fifth in the 100 butterfly at 51.41 with France’s Mehdy Metella on top at 50.85.

“Times bug me being slow, but it’s just seeing where we are at,” said Dressel. “We just move forward. It’s the progression.”

What is not factored in is Dressel’s ability to be supremely prepared for the biggest meets in the world.
