There are six small billboards in front of the subdivision, across from Middleburg High School, and numerous homemade signs along roadways and intersections. Years ago, there was an employee who was responsible for removing all the trash signs. Has that position been eliminated? Even political signs are left way after voting has been completed.
According to the county website, yes, there is an intricate list of regulations for signs in Clay County.
The regulations, which range from digital billboards to freestanding signs, aim to encourage the effective use of signs, improve pedestrian safety, and minimize adverse effects, among other objectives.
The Code Enforcement Division is responsible for ensuring compliance with county codes. However, the county said they don't remove signs that are on private property. And any billboards along public roadways are privately owned and managed by those companies.
Regarding political signs, according to Florida Statutes, candidates are required to remove all political campaign signage within 30 days after withdrawal, elimination, or election. If they are not removed by then, the local government or political subdivision would then have the authority to remove them. But the candidate would then be charged for its removal.
