CSX to make emergency crossing repairs on Watkins Road

GREEN COVE SPRINGS – CSX emergency railroad crossing repairs are scheduled for Watkins Road on Jan. 5.
Residents should anticipate a complete railroad crossing closure on Watkins Road, east of Russell Road, scheduled to begin on/around on Jan. 5, from 9 a.m. through 8 p.m. for emergency repairs due to an identified defect within the crossing. Barricades will be in place blocking off the work zone.
This is a full and total closure of all lanes. This means no traffic will be allowed across the track until the work is complete. Please plan accordingly and avoid this area if possible. Plans are in place for emergency vehicle access, if needed.

Green Cove Springs Council passes resolution to cover city costs

GREEN COVE SPRINGS – The city council unanimously passed a resolution during Tuesday night’s special session meeting that will allow the city to collect costs from property owners for nuisance abatement violations.
The costs will be added as a non-Ad Valorem assessment on annual property tax bills.
The resolution passed, 4-0, with councilwoman Connie Thomas absent from the meeting.
City staff now will amend its nuisance abatement ordinance and enter into an agreement with Clay County Property Appraiser for the program. City anticipates that the first Non-Ad Valorem Assessments will begin to appear on property tax bills in November 2022.
