Borko earns Outstanding Graduate award for Visual Arts at SJRSC
PALATKA – Florida School of the Arts recently bid farewell to graduates now on their way to pursue careers in art galleries, on stage or behind the scenes in the entertainment industry. Many will continue their education at universities before finding their niche in the arts. The College honored students who received their associate degrees in the visual and performing arts at the St. Johns River State College Palatka campus.
Outstanding graduates were recognized during the ceremony, including Clay County resident Lydia Isabella Borko, who received the award for Outstanding Graduate in the Visual Arts.
Florida School of the Arts graduates representing Clay County are as follows: Jahleel Christian, Naomi Huff, Sean Mansfield, Jeff Parmenter, Emily Poehlman, Angelee Ramos, Melanie Rodriguez and Yasmin Rohena.
The commencement speech was given by FloArts alumna “Monet.” Monet is a graduate from Harvard University in affiliation with the Tony Award-winning American Repertory Theatre. Monet has also studied abroad at the world-renowned Moscow Art Theatre School. She currently resides in New York City where she is pursuing her acting career.
Florida School of the Arts is part of the academic and administrative structure of SJR State and awards the two-year associate degree in the following areas of study: visual art, stage management, dance performance, theater technology, acting and musical theater. The School serves the entire state of Florida. Admission is based on an audition or portfolio review, an interview with the faculty and admission to SJR State. Students produce and perform in approximately four visual art exhibitions and 10 performances each year.

Szafranski, McNeely graduate from North Greenville
Tigerville, S.C. – Two local students graduated recently from North Greenville University.
Jaren Szafranski of Fleming Island got a degree in marketing, while Mary McNeely of Green Cove Springs graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in elementary education.
North Greenville, at the foothills of Glassy Mountain, is a co-educational liberal arts institution which provides opportunities for higher education in a biblically sound Christ-centered environment.
GCS’s Murphy lands on Nebraska’s Dean’s List
LINCOLN, Neb. – Green Cove Springs’ Renee Murphy recently earned a spot on the Dean’s List/Explore Center List of Distinguished Students at the University of Nebraska.
Murphy is a junior psychology and political science major.
To qualify for the College of Arts and Science’s Dean’s List, Murphy had a minimum 3.7 grade point average.
Terhaar earns faculty honors at Georgia Tech
ATLANTA – Hanna Hanna Terhaar of Orange Park earned the distinction of Faculty Honors for Spring 2019 at the Georgia Institute of Technology. This designation is awarded to undergraduate students who have a 4.0 academic average for the semester.
