CLAY COUNTY – The Clay Soil and Water Conservation District's Poster and Speech contests, in partnership with A-Plus Environmental Solutions, have now come to a close for 2022.
The competition, held starting every February, is open to all K-12 students who reside in Clay County. The competition received over one hundred entries in all five poster grade divisions, with more than 50 entries in seventh-to-ninth grade division alone, with more than a dozen schools participating and eight submissions into the speech contest with students from four different schools.
The speech contest was held at the UF IFAS Clay Extension Center with Michele Hanson, David Theus and Angela Taylor-Minty as the judges. First Place winners in the Speech Contest each received $200. First Place winners in the Poster Contest each received $75 (K-1st and 2nd-3rd divisions); $150 in the 4th-6th, 7th-9th and 10th-12th divisions.
The prize amounts would not have been made possible this year without the generous contribution from this year's sponsor, A-Plus Environmental Solutions and its owners, David and LaFashion Charles.
Poster winners were:
10-12th grade division: Aimee Ibrahim, 12th Grade at Fleming Island High School
7-9th: Porfirio Canales, 8th Grade at Annunciation Catholic School
4-6th: Shiv Patel, 4th Grade at Tynes Elementary
2nd-3rd: Joel Kang, 3rd Grade at Montclair Elementary

Speech contest winners were:
6th-8th grade division: Riya Patel, 8th Grade at Lake Asbury Junior High
