YULEE - Clay High traveled to Valdosta High for a second straight year and came home again with the team title at the Allstate Wildcat Invitational with the Blue Devils garnering individual titles to Cale Hoskinson and Garrett Tyre.

Earlier in the week, Clay won decisively 61-18 over Oakleaf in dual meet action.

Also on Friday and Saturday, Fleming Island, moving quickly after not being able to host the St. Johns River Athletic Conference tournament due to travel restrictions for visiting teams, made quick work at the Yulee Duals at Yulee High School with a 5-0 slate over the likes of Suwannee, Yulee, Episcopal (recent runnerup at Dual at the Dunes at Fernandina Beach High), Bishop Kenny and Bolles in a meet of Class 1A versus Class 3A.

Fleming Island flexed some 3A muscle and will stay home over the Christmas holiday with a decision to not attend the annual trek to the Osceola Christmas Tournament in late December.

“We are just going to work at our place and getting stronger,” said Fleming Island coach P.J. Cobbert. “We have some young guys that can use some battling right here at home.”

Keystone Heights opened their season at the Duals at the Dunes with a ninth place finish. Ridgeview was seventh with Brunswick (GA) taking the team title.

Ridgeview traveled to the Union County Duals and took third in team points with both Matthew Rodriguez and Derrick Mosley named outstanding wrestlers with unbeaten slates.

At Valdosta, Hoskinson, unbeaten thus far at 170, won via four pins with Tyre, 9-1 at 220, registered four pins after and opening round Bye.

Clay got second place finishes from Marvin Rainwater at 113, Luke Boree at 138, Dominic Martin at 152.

Clay, the lone Florida school, won with 180.5 points over Colquitt County’s 168.0 and Valdosta at 164.5.
