Clay Chamber of Commerce supports Small Business Saturday

CLAY COUNTY – The Clay County Chamber of Commerce announced that, as a member of the American Express Neighborhood Champion Program, and in honor of the 10th Annual Small Business Saturday, it will host a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Orange Park Mall on Nov. 30 at 10 a.m., to spotlight small businesses and the impact they have on communities, and to encourage shoppers to Shop Small this holiday season.

Created by American Express in 2010, Small Business Saturday is marking a decade of support from American Express for local business owners. Since its inception, consumers have reported spending an estimated $103 billion across all Small Business Saturdays combined. That’s $103 billion toward helping communities thrive, spent over just nine days alone.

An average two-thirds of every dollar ($0.67) spent at a small business in the U.S. stays in that local community. That means shopping small could help bring things like better schools, smoother roads, and new jobs to neighborhoods across the country.

Clay County celebrates its strong business community and acknowledges that small businesses make up 99% of all new businesses in the U.S. and employ 47.5% of the country’s workforce. Small businesses also create unique experiences that make people want to live and visit an area. The Clay County Chamber of Commerce has joined forces with the Clay Tourism Department to promote and serve the small business community. A web page has been developed, Exploreclay.com/Experiences, dedicated to small Business Saturday participants.

The Clay County Board of County Commissioners will be presenting a proclamation during the Nov. 26 board meeting in honor of Small Business Saturday and encouraging Clay County residents to support the small business community that makes our county unique and help strengthen our local economy by shopping small all year.

Merchants and consumers can learn more about Small Business Saturday and how to get involved by visiting ShopSmall.com.
