Chop, Lascano grapple with Indiana eight place national team

VIRGINIA BEACH - Fleming Island High School wrestlers Luke Chop and Jeffrey Lascano, both juniors, competed with an Indiana high school team that was chock full of state champions and state runnerups as invitees to the National High School Coaches Association's National Duals Championships held May 29-31 in Virginia Beach.

Chop, 55-6 last year and a third place finisher at 152 at regions and state for coach P.J. Cobbert's second place team in Class 3A, and Lascano, 43-7, and a third at regions at 220, both competed with the Indiana Outlaws Black team that finished eighth of 250 teams at the high-powered national event.

For the three day event, Chop and Lascano both finished at five wins, four losses against numerous high-powered fields.

The Indiana Black team featured three Indiana state champs; one a three-time champion; one state runnerup and seven state medalists (top six).

Overall champion was the Team Kong United which featured a plethora of nationwide champions including a five-time New York champion, a four-time Alabama champion and a four-time Virginia champion with 13 winning national titles in multiple disciplines.
