2024 was a year with a lot of turbulence and uncertainty. Inflation made a dent in our bank accounts, political power shifts, and conflicts around the world to name a few.

As we begin a new year, we should challenge ourselves to look forward, not behind. God operates in the present and future. He is a God of the new.

God says: “Do not remember the former things, nor consider the things of old. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland.” (Isaiah 43:18-19)

This is consistent with the life mission and ministry of Jesus. When we accept Him as Savior and make Him Lord of our life, things look completely different. Look at what the Apostle Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians 5:17, “This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!”

There are many stories in the scriptures where things that looked bleak or even hopeless, God did something new.

One is the story of Noah, despite ridicule and insurmountable odds, a new earth was brought to life. Remember Job, who lost everything including his children. But God “blessed the latter days of Job more than his beginning”. (Job 42:12) Or when the Jewish people returned from exile and rebuilt the temple. God specializes in new.

King David, who had some new beginnings in his life story, wrote so eloquently in Psalm 40:3 “He has given me a new song to sing, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see what he has done and be amazed. They will put their trust in the Lord.”

So regardless of the challenges and difficulties of 2024, and for many of us they have been significant, remember God wants to do something new in your life in 2025.
