HOWEY-IN-THE-LAKES - Middleburg High junior golfer Chase Carroll and St. Johns Country Day School freshman golfer Addy Vogt both came home with less than par golf outings at the Class 2A and Class 1A golf championships held last week at the Mission Inn Resort & Club in Hower-in-the-Hills.
Vogt, a first timer as a freshman, finished 79th with a two round total of 171 with rounds of 88 and 83 on the rugged state course at Mission Inn. Vogt was 16 over par in her first round with six pars for the day. In round two, Vogt improved to an 83 for the final round with seven pars and one birdie.
For Carroll, who returned to his third state tournament, the first round saw the Bronco in sixth place at the finish with a four over par 76 with an opening double bogie followed by six of seven pars and a final nine that saw him crush for four birdies.
Round two, though, proved more treacherous as Carroll faltered again on hole one with a triple bogie that added three strokes to his score. The rest of the front nine was followed by five pars but a disastrous eight on a par three eighth hole (a quintuple bogey, I think). The back nine proved more friendly with five pars and a birdie on the final hole to finish at 13 over for the day and a 161 for the weekend.
