Once I read a story about a ship that was sailing Lake Ontario. The supplies of the ship had been used and they had no drinking water left on board. Days had passed, and those passengers and crew onboard were about to die of thirst. They spotted a passing ship and a cry for help was sent to them.
“SOS … Help … We are dying of thirst … Send fresh water.” The answer came instantly. To the astonishment of the people on the ship in distress, the answer was “Dip it up! Dip it up! The water around you is fresh.”
Their suffering and fear were totally unnecessary. They were in fresh water all the time. All they had to do was “dip it up” and drink.
This is God’s message to those who cry for help: “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart … because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” (Rom. 10:8-9) The full flood of God’s provisions – His love, His grace, His mercy – are all around us. Unless we reach out and take it, we cannot receive the fullness of His blessing and provision.
Do not live believing God’s supply is unavailable. It is all around us. He is touched by our infirmities. He feels our sorrows as well as our joys. He knows what we need before we even ask.
Why suffer from lack of spiritual food when Jesus is the Bread of Life? Why be parched with spiritual thirst when Jesus is the Water of Life? Why walk in spiritual darkness when Jesus is the Light of the World?
He is always near us. Jesus said, “I am always with you” and “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” This is His personal promise to us! His greatest provision to us is Himself.
