Wallizada, Watford win 8K River Day run

ORANGE PARK – Orange Park’s Omron Wallizada and 13 year old Laci Watford took top honors Saturday at the 8K River Day run held at the Grace Episcopal School in Orange Park. Nearly 400 runners participated in the event to benefit the Grace Episcopal School.

Wallizada, 20, won in 31 minutes, 57 seconds for the 4.97 mile course with Watford top female at 34:06.

Charity Daigle, 30, and Jessica Jewell, 36, finished second and third to Watford with times of 34;09 and 35:07, respectively, in a close sprint to the finish.

In the men’s race, Wallizada won by 10 seconds over David Robinson, 36, in 32:07 with George Simcox, 44, third at 32:50.

Master’s awards were earned by Elizabeth Heuer, 46, and Scott Rabalais, both winners in 37:47 and 33:14, respectively.

Next up for the area is the Ortega River Run on February 24 at 8:30 a.m.. Also on February 24 at 6 p.m. is the CIS 5K Glow Run at the Keystone Heights Airport.

For those more adventurous, the Florida Striders will be hosting the Angry Tortoise 25K/50K races in Cary State Forest near Baldwin on Sun., Feb. 25 at 7 a.m.
