JACKSONVILLE - North Florida women's soccer earned its second Atlantic Sun win of the campaign thanks to two goals in three minutes and a Sophia Goetz brace as the Ospreys (4-5-2, 2-2-0 ASUN) stifled Austin Peay (4-7-1, 2-2-0 ASUN) 3-0, Sunday, Sept. 24.
On the field for the Lady Ospreys were Clay County High School and Clay County Soccer alums Lauren Weiss (SJCDS), Bella Pontieri (SJCDS), Avery Raimondo (SJCDS), Liz Anne Fogarty (Clay), Brialyn Anderson (Providence), Analiese Anderson (Providence/Clay County), as well as Sydney Hauth (FIHS) and Courtney Allen, both who were injured.
UNF caught the Governors on their heels, scoring twice within the first three minutes to take an early advantage. Sophia Goetz bounced on the end of a rebounded shot by Paige McSwigan to open the scoring. Just a minute later, a saved header from Zara Siassi fell into the path of Jersi Dadah who slotted it home. Goetz got her brace in the 19th minute, heading in a Lauren Weiss cross after a good link-up play with Amanda Hartmann.
With the score 2-0, Fogarty and Raimondo entered the game and Fogarty immediately put two head balls into the goalie's hands. Fogarty also got a soft shot on goal that was handled.
Raimondo played midfield and directed passes into the Osprey offensive game with Pontieri entering in the second half as a forward.
It's the first time in the Eric Faulconer era and at least since 2012 that North Florida scored twice in the first five minutes of the match.
