The Clay County Sheriff’s Office arrested Chad Wayne Akers for allegedly stabbing his father, David Arthur Akers after a fight at the family’s Oakleaf home.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office brought search dogs to a wooded area to look for a man who robbed the Compass Bank branch at 561 Blanding Blvd.

The Florida Farm Bureau Women’s Leadership Program donated $15,000 to Seamark Ranch, the home for children who have been removed from their families.

In a 3-1 vote with one member absent, the Clay County School Board approved its $449 million budget and accompanying 7.491 millage rate. As passed, the budget would generate more than $79 million in local property tax revenue.

Orange Park Town Council presented a $200,000 check to Orange Park Skate Park for upgrades and repairs. The town would have to match the state grant with another round of $200,000.

The Board of County Commissioners approved a proposed $249.9 million budget that cut a record $29.3 million from its 2006-07 spending plan.

J.W. Angus, Clay County Sheriff’s Office detective, reported sightings of Crips gang symbols on street signs near Montclair Elementary School on Moody Avenue and in the Tanglewood Subdivision.

Joshua Ray Manucy, 5, was transported to Orange Park Medical Center and placed in critical condition after being treated for a pygmy rattlesnake bite in Middleburg.

The film “G.I. Jane,” which was filmed at Camp Blanding, was set to debut in Jacksonville.

An off-duty Florida Highway Patrol officer helped Clay County Sheriff’s Deputies arrest three men involved in an attempted drug deal. Officers arrested Michael Glenn of Jacksonville, Morris Richard Godfrey and Dennis Anthony Davis, both of Orange Park and confiscated 23 LSD stamps.

The Clay County School Board heard a report from Tom Jackson of Plantec Corp., which studied a proposed impact fee structure of the district for the first time ever. The fee, as allowed by state law, would be levied on new construction and used for building new schools.

The Board of County Commissioners set a special election for Oct. 6 to allow voters to decide between imposing a 1-cent sales tax or creating a special tax district to pay for landfill costs.

Hall Properties Inc. of Jacksonville announced plans to build a 50,000-square foot shopping center near the intersection of Blanding and Blairmore Boulevards. Assistant Vice-President John O’Connor said the center would have a Pantry Pride grocery store and space for seven other tenants.

Clay County municipalities would be divvying up $391,000 in federal funds from the Emergency Jobs Program Extension Act to hire 48 unemployed workers to develop parks, improve drainage and beautify downtown areas.

Clay County Sheriff Jennings Murrhee turned in a $1.19 million budget reflecting a 19 percent increase over the previous year.
