Orange Park Vice Mayor Steve Howard asked the Clay County Legislative Delegation to modify the Florida Sunshine Law to allow discussions regarding personnel matters and real estate acquisitions be made in private.

The Clay County Development Authority selected a 35-acre site near Branan Field and Old Jennings Roads to build a $20 million multi-field, multi-sport athletic complex through California-based Big League Dreams.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement was brought in to investigate a shooting in which Clay County deputy Reginald Hyatt fired his weapon three times at Nicholas R. Cannady who was struck at least once during a call in which he threatened suicide at his Orange Park area apartment.

Challenge Enterprises opened a new business that offers secure document shredding for businesses. Shred for Good would provide jobs for people with disabilities.

Originally built as a Holiday Inn, the motel at the corner of Park Avenue at Interstate 295 became a Howard Johnson’s Inn.

The board of directors of Clay County Habitat for Humanity announced Gamble Wright would be its new executive director on Jan. 1.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office arrested four teens for allegedly entering the Fazoli’s Restaurant at 495 Blanding Blvd. and shooting two employees and robbing the restaurant.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office said Robert Matthew Rhoden of Middleburg shot and killed Ryan Thurman after an argument involving Thurman’s estranged wife. The investigation continued without charges being filed.

Officials from the City of Green Cove Springs and Clay County Utility Authority held meetings to discuss how the city’s wastewater treatment system could be connected to the countywide utility.

The Clay Board of County Commissioners passed an amended ordinance to allow churches to temporarily worship in shopping centers before they build a new sanctuary.

Three-year-old Cecil Joe Jett Jr. cranked his family’s car, which rolled backward onto the chest of Lindsey Sanders, 5, of Orange Park, and killed her, according to a Florida Highway Patrol investigation.

David Corey King, 18, of Jacksonville, was charged with two counts of attempted murder after an investigation showed he shot two 16-year-old boys near Middleburg Avenue and Pine Street in Green Cove Springs.

The Green Cove Springs City Commission considered a moratorium on new apartment construction in the city.

Green Cove Springs Mayor Joe Love announced a moratorium on delinquent utility cutoffs. When asked why, he said, “It’s Christmas!”

The Orange Avenue Winn Dixie in Green Cove Springs advertised round steak on sale for $1.69 a pound.
