Faith walk: The mystery of death

Everyone is going to die. I don’t want to be morbid, but it is just a fact. We all know that we are only mortals. So, this statement does not surprise anyone. Death is a part of life. The Bible states it clearly. Hebrews 9:27 says every person has an appointment with death.

Since we all face this certainty, let me say some things we all need to know about death.

You do not need to fear death. The reason we do not fear death is that Jesus conquered it when He rose from the tomb.

“Death is swallowed up in victory.

O death, where is your victory?

O death, where is your sting?”

1 Cor. 15:54-55

His resurrection gives us the hope of eternal life with Him. Death is a promotion for those who trust in the victorious sacrifice of our Lord Jesus.

“Thanks be to God! He gives us the

victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

1 Cor. 15:57

Death is a transition. The Apostle made it clear. “Absent from the body; present with the Lord.” (2 Cor. 5:8)

If we are alive at the Second Coming of our Lord, we will be “caught up” in the Rapture. That is a transition from mortal to immortal. The death of the physical body is the same transition.

Death is a promotion. If you read the New Testament as a believer, the fear of the unknown drops out of sight. The Lord provides us with abundant assurances that Heaven is a better place than this earth.

“No eye has seen, no ear has heard,

and no mind has imagined

what God has prepared

for those who love him.”

2 Cor. 2:9 NLT
