Faith walk: Thanksgiving

Posted

There are a lot of variations when the history of our Thanksgiving holiday is discussed. Fine points in the history are disputed. For us, the history of Thanksgiving should not be the most important thing. The value you place on thanksgiving in your own heart should be most important.

This should be a season to remind us of the goodness of our loving Heavenly Father who has blessed us in abundant ways. It should be a time to remind us that we are always to praise Him with the words of our mouths and the declarations from our heart.

There are many reasons for us to praise and thank God. The Bible says that “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father …” (James 1:17) He wants us to praise Him for the treasury of good things He has provided us. Think of just some of His blessings:

He has provided us salvation in the sacrifice of His Son. Jesus paid an ultimate price when He offered Himself on the cross for our eternal salvation.

He has provided us companionship for life. Jesus promised to always be with us. His promise is that He will never leave us – never forsake us. We have a Savior Who is always with us in every circumstance of life.

He has provided us guidance and direction. He has a perfect plan for us which will lead us to ultimate victory in His presence if we wholly follow Him. “My Lord knows the way; all I have to do is follow.”

He has provided us peace. “You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!” (Isaiah 26:3) Jesus will keep us satisfied, settled, secure and safe. He gives us peace in every storm; peace that is supernatural because it is His gift to us.

The reasons we should thankfully praise Him are numerous beyond measure. Let’s make this a day of thanking Him for loving us!
