Clay residents graduate from Georgia Tech

ATLANTA, Ga. – Three Clay County students recently graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Degrees were awarded to approximately 3,000 undergraduate and graduate students during the Institute’s 251st Commencement exercises on May 6-7 at the McCamish Pavilion.

Marc Cohen received a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering, while Molly Merritt and Nico de Leon both earned bachelor of science degrees in computer science. All three students are from Fleming Island.

Clay cadets make Dean’s List at The Citadel

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Two Clay student cadets earned top honors in the spring 2016 semester at The Citadel.

Dean’s List recognition is given to cadets registered for 12 or more semester hours and whose grade point average is 3.2 or higher with no grade below a C for the previous semester’s work.

Andrew Aiken of Fleming Island and Rachel Keefer of Orange Park earned Dean’s List honors. Meanwhile, Aiken was also awarded Gold Stars by The Citadel for earning a grade point ratio of 3.7 or higher during the 2016 spring semester. Students that achieve Gold Star recognition are also placed on The Citadel’s Dean's List.

The Citadel, founded in 1842, is a public, coeducational military college in Charleston, S.C., that offers a classic military education for men and women seeking a college experience that is meaningful, academically strong and is focused on educating and developing principled leaders for a strong military and a global workforce.

Kieffer graduates from Andrew College

CUTHBERT, Ga. – On May 7, blue and gold flags adorned the Andrew College campus along U.S. Highway 82, a 162-year tradition that signals the college’s annual commencement exercises. Among the group of 64 graduation candidates was Kayla Marie Kieffer of Middleburg who earned an associate of science degree. Kieffer was also named to the President’s List for earning a 4.0 GPA, Andrew's highest recognition.

Founded in 1854, Andrew College is a small, private, two-year college related to The United Methodist Church and accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.

Gussie makes Dean’s List

EMMITSBURG, Md. – Kielce Gussie of Middleburg is among the 551 students who earned Dean’s List honors for the spring 2016 semester at Mount St. Mary’s University in Emmitsburg, Maryland.

Kielce, the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Thomas Gussie is eligible for this honor by maintaining a 3.4 grade point average or higher.

Mount St. Mary's University in Maryland is the nation’s second-oldest Catholic university, with an award-winning student life program, more than 40 majors and minors to choose from and 17 Division I athletic teams.

Donnelly graduates from Springfield College

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Melissa Donnelly of Orange Park has earned a bachelor’s of science degree in human services from Springfield College for studies completed in 2016.

Springfield College recently held its commencement weekend. At the graduate commencement ceremony, 646 master's degrees, eight certificates of advanced graduate study, seven doctor of philosophy degrees, 38 doctoral of physical therapy degrees, and five doctor of psychology degrees were awarded. At the undergraduate commencement, 915 bachelor's degrees were awarded for a two-day total of 1619 degrees.

Founded in 1885, Springfield College is known worldwide for the guiding principles of its Humanics philosophy-educating students in spirit, mind and body for leadership in service to others.

Holdship graduates from Spring Arbor University

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – Holy Holdship of Fleming Island, graduated with a bachelor’s degree in pastoral ministry from Spring Arbor University. The daughter of Mark and Patti Holdship, she also earned summa cum laude honors for maintaining a grade point average between 3.9 and 4.0.

SAU is a Christian liberal arts university located in Spring Arbor, Michigan. SAU offers more than 70 majors and programs to undergraduate students. As a leader in adult and professional studies, Spring Arbor University continues to reach out to working adults who wish to complete associate, bachelor's or master's degrees.

Stokes named to Sewanee Dean’s List

SEWANEE, Tenn. – William Alexander Stokes III of Fleming Island has been named to the Dean’s List at the University of the South for the Easter 2016 term. To earn a place on Sewanee’s Dean’s List, a student must earn a minimum grade point average of 3.625 on a 4.0 scale. Stokes is the son of Stuart & Marvin B. Stokes.

The University of the South, familiarly known as Sewanee, comprises a nationally recognized College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and a distinguished School of Theology. Located on 13,000 acres on Tennessee’s Cumberland Plateau, Sewanee
