ORANGE PARK – With a release of a handful of butterflies, runners were set to go for the annual Survivors Celebration Butterfly 5K road race staged Saturday in Orange Park.
Winning the event were, for the men, Peter Kotchen, 48, of Orange Park, who won in 17:55 with brothers Kameron Wallizada, 14, and Omron Wallizada, 20, finishing two and three in 20:27 and 20:45, respectively. Kameron Wallizada is a Lakeside Junior High track runner.
For the women, Kristine Williams, 45, of St. Augustine, a top master’s runner, won in 21:11 with Abby Reimer, 19, of Ponte Vedra Beach, just 20 seconds behind in 21:31. Stacy McAbee, 56, of St. Augustine, took third in 24:21.
In age groups, a third Wallizada, 11 year old Shekaeb, won that age group in 26:54 while John Lingg, 16, of Keystone Heights, won the men 14-19 in 36:14.
Other area age group winners were Cedric Bodway, 41, of Middleburg, in 26;00; Jim Milam, 49, of Middleburg, in 25:45; Severiano Melendez, 57, of Middleburg, in 32:46, and Orange Park stalwart George White, 70, in 24:26.
For the women age group winners, Kyley Hillegas, 8, of Orange Park, won in 36:00; Madison Johnson, 11, of Middleburg, in 26:52; Barbara Sage, 49, of Fleming Island, in 28:09; Maria Gustafson, 53, of Orange Park, in 35:28; Sandra DiGiovanni, 67, of Orange Park, in 37:02, and Pat Hansen, 85, of Middleburg, in 55:56.
