Raiders fall to Braves

Height vs. Shooting

ORANGE PARK - Orange Park High's basketball team has ridden a philosophy of "Chuck 'n Duck" as coach Derek Kurnitsky calls it, but the shooting end of the Raider attack fell short to the height advantage of Terry Parker High as the Braves took a 53-39 win in the region 1-6A quarterfinal match in the RaiderDome on Thursday. Orange Park hosted via winning the district 4-6A title over Baker County last week.

"They had a big height advantage under the boards and we were not hitting our shots," said Kurnitsky, after the first region game since 2009 in the RaiderDome. "It's nice to have this feeling back in the gym though. We brought back some old school Raider basketball."

After giving up a 10-0 early run at the game's start, Orange Park fought to as close as seven points in the second half, but could not close the gap in the final moments.
