Outstanding warrant search ends in new charges
GREEN COVE SPRINGS – What began as deputies trying to locate a man wanted for not appearing in court and not paying child support ended April 17 in new felony charges.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office charged Steven Allen Brock, 35, with resisting an officer, possession of methamphetamine and possession of marijuana after a search of his home at 7:41 p.m. in the 5000 block of Sweat Road in Green Cove Springs.
Police originally went to the home to serve outstanding warrants for non-support and failing to appear in court. While there, officers uncovered 5.8 grams of meth and two bags of marijuana weighing a total of 16 grams.
Brock faces possession of methamphetamine with intent to sell, possession of not more than 20 g. cannabis, failure to appear for court, resisting an officer, two counts of non-support. He was booked into the Clay County Jail where, at press time, he remained with his bond set at $87,259.

Police seize 90 grams of pot
ORANGE PARK – A traffic stop led Clay County Sheriff’s Office deputies to arrest a man for marijuana distribution charges.
Police arrested John Daniel Allen, 31, on April 17 after a traffic stop in the 1900 block of Wells Road at 10:55 p.m. The officer smelled marijuana coming from the car and then asked Allen “if he had anything he was not supposed to have inside the vehicle,” states the CCSO report.
Police said Allen reached into a backpack on the floorboard and pulled out a large container that contained 70 grams of cannabis. Police seized a total of 90.1 grams in the search.
Officers also uncovered an undisclosed firearm with a live round in the chamber pointing out on the police report that Allen did not disclose the weapon during any part of the investigation.
He is charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell, using or displaying a firearm during felony, drug equipment possession and has been released from the Clay County Jail on an undisclosed bond.

Woman arrested for depositing bad checks
KEYSTONE HEIGHTS – A Keystone Heights woman was arrested on a warrant after depositing several bad checks into her account in early March.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office arrested Brandi Lynn Hall, 25, on April 12 by officers following up on a warrant issued for Hall’s arrest.
In early March, police said, Hall deposited about $700 in bad checks into her bank account, then attempted to make a false deposit using an empty deposit envelope.
Officers arrested Hall at her home and she now faces a felony charge for an attempt to defraud a financial institution. Hall was transported to the Clay County Jail where she remains with no bond set and a court date set for May 17.

Man assaults officer after arrest for child abuse and domestic battery
KEYSTONE HEIGHTS – A Keystone Heights man was arrested after assaulting his girlfriend and a child, then assaulted an officer while being transported to the jail.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office arrested Kyle Lewis Fales, 25, on April 16 after Fales had assaulted two people at a Keystone Heights home.
Fales, in a fight with his girlfriend, shoved her in the chest, then proceeded to push a child through a handrail on a porch and onto an air conditioning unit. Fales then started wrestling his girlfriend in the front yard of the property until her aunt used a stun gun to get him to stop.
Officers arrested Fales and while transporting him to the Clay County Jail Fales began kicking the inside of the rear door in the patrol vehicle. Fearing the door would break, the arresting officer stopped the car and opened the door and was kicked in the face by Fales. After being kicked, the officer attempted to get Fales under control when Fales wrapped his legs around the officer’s torso, squeezing him. The officer punched Fales until he released his legs, kicking the officer again until the officer drew his taser, removed the cartridge, and used it to stun Fales until he stopped resisting.
Fales was transported to the Clay County Jail where he is facing felony charges for battery of a law enforcement officer, resisting an officer with violence, and abusing a child without great bodily harm. In addition to the felonies he is facing misdemeanor charges for domestic battery and vandalism under $1000 for damage done to the patrol vehicle.
Fales’ combined bond amount is set at $110,000 and his next court date is scheduled for May 24.

Man arrested for drug trafficking on the way to Easter service
MIDDLEBURG – An Orange Park man was arrested for possession of multiple drugs after being stopped for a speeding violation.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office arrested Dmaris Rashei Bruce, 29, on April 16 after Bruce was found in possession of heroin and cocaine following a routine traffic stop.
Bruce was pulled over while traveling at 67 miles per hour in a 45 mile per hour stretch of Challenger Drive north of Middleburg, stating to the officer that he was rushing home to get ready for church. The officer smelled marijuana from the car and noticed Bruce reaching under his seat which led to Bruce being removed from the car and searched. Officers found about $800 dollars in one of his front pockets and proceeded to search the car.
In the search, they found multiple containers which held seven 30 milligram morphine pills, five and a half grams of heroin, a combined three grams of cocaine, an unloaded .22 caliber firearm, and several items used for the production of crack cocaine and sale of drugs.
Bruce was arrested and transported to the Clay County Jail where remains. He faces felony charges for trafficking heroin, cocaine distribution, and possession of a controlled substance (morphine) without a prescription, and a misdemeanor charge for drug paraphernalia. Bruce is being held on a $180,000 bond with his next court date is set for May 17.

OPHS student found with knife, drugs on campus
ORANGE PARK – A student at Orange Park High School was arrested after allegedly smoking marijuana in a school bathroom.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office arrested Victoria Skai Ojeda, 18, on April 17 after the school resource officer investigated the smell of marijuana coming from a girl’s bathroom at the school.
The officer and vice principal approached Ojeda and smelled a “strong odor” of marijuana coming from her when the vice principal asked the girl if she had anything on her that she shouldn’t have at school. The vice principal found a container of marijuana in Ojeda’s backpack, and upon further investigation found cigarettes, a pipe with marijuana residue, a knife, and a baggie of prescription amphetamine pills.
Ojeda was transported to the Clay County Jail and faces felony charges for having a weapon on school property and possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, in addition to misdemeanor charges for marijuana possession and drug paraphernalia. Ojeda has since been released from jail.


Drugs hidden in Easter egg
GREEN COVE SPRINGS – Police arrested a man April 15 in the 3600 block of Alec Drive while attempting to serve a warrant.
Clay County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Raymond Leon Calley, 30, at 2:03 p.m. after they witnessed him walk out of the home’s garage holding a bag containing drugs and drug paraphernalia.
Police seized a scale, a syringe, a pill holder and an Easter egg that contained two bags of powder cocaine weighing 13.7 grams. Police also eight Clonazepam bills, 1.1 grams of cannabis .21 grams of heroin and 8 milligrams of suboxone.
Calley faces charges of failure to appear in court for an outstanding drug paraphernalia possession charge. As a result of the April 15 investigation, he has new charges of cocaine possession, drug trafficking - 4 grams less 30 kg other controlled substance, possession of not more than 20 g. cannabis, possession of heroin, possession of clonazepam, possession of suboxone, drug equipment possession.
At press time, he remained in the Clay County Jail with bond set at $265,021.

Sexual assault charge for Jacksonville man
ORANGE PARK – A Jacksonville man faces one felony charge of sexual assault on a victim over 18 and domestic battery after an investigation.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office arrested Jesse James Barfield, 26, April 14 after deputies responded to a sexual battery that had already occurred.
The victim was questioned at the CCSO to the Orange Park substation.
There, according to the report, the victim stated that on April 14, she was on the couch in the living room of her apartment while Barfield was in a bedroom. The victim stated Barfield was intoxicated and allegedly began to make sexual advances toward her, the report said.
The victim said no several times and was crying. Barfield allegedly forced the victim into vaginal and oral intercourse, according to the report. Deputies relocated to the victim’s apartment and made contact with Barfield.
Deputies transported Barfield to the Orange Park substation for questioning, and was later arrested and transported to the Clay County Jail, where he remained without bond.

Auto theft charge for Jax man
GREEN COVE SPRINGS – A Jacksonville man faces one count of grand theft auto in connection with an August 2016 investigation.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office – on April 12 – charged Jeffrey Karl Arnold, 42, with allegedly stealing a Dodge Neon from an Orange Park area mechanic shop where he worked on August 10, 2016.
According to the arrest warrant, the owner of the car had signed over the title to the car to the shop’s owner and the car had set in the rear of the shop building for over a year.
The shop owner told police that he believed Arnold had driven the car off of the property initially to “check a repair,” states the warrant. “He then continued working and realized, over the next few days, that the defendant stopped showing up for work.”
At press time, Arnold remained in the Clay County Jail where his bond is set at $10,003.

Man charged with threatening mom with gun
ORANGE PARK – It started on April 2 as a verbal argument and ended with a Jacksonville man allegedly pulling out a gun and threatening his mother.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office arrested Keyon Marq’ale Foster, 21, on April 12 after having obtained a warrant for his arrest.
According to the warrant, the argument began at the victim’s home in the 3700 block of Blackthron Court when Foster and the victim argued over Foster taking his step-son to the Clay County Agricultural Fair. Police said Foster walked away from the victim and began punching a hole in a bedroom door. Police said Foster re-approached the victim, pulled out a handgun from his waistband, cocked it and pointed it at the victim.
Police said when the victim called 911, Foster grabbed the phone from her, threw it on the floor and destroyed it.
He is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, witness tampering. At press time, he remained in the Clay County Jail with bond set at $125,006.

Sheriff’s Office needs your help
GREEN COVE SPRINGS – Detectives with the Clay County Sheriff’s Office are looking for four suspects involved in a string of auto burglaries in the Cheswick Oaks area of Argyle.
Police said the suspects in the photograph are also responsible for entering several unlocked vehicles on Golden Pond Boulevard in the Argyle area on March 29.
Residents with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects, are asked to call the Clay County Sheriff’s Office at (904) 264-6512.
