Junior high students participate in mock trial

Posted

JACKSONVILLE – Ninety students from Orange Park Junior High recently visited the United States District Courthouse in Jacksonville to get a hands-on civics lesson. The students participated in the Open Doors Program, an annual event presenting students with realistic legal dilemmas. Open Doors is a national initiative conducted by local federal judges in their courtrooms. On Feb. 19, students took part in a mock trial with the Judge James R. Klindt, a U.S. Magistrate Judge who instructed students through the trial process. Participating in a mock trial under the direction of a federal judge prepares students for rigorous end-of-course exams, future civic involvement and allows them to explore the different careers offered within the justice system.
