Panthers blow out Wolfson

ORANGE PARK – Friday night, Ridgeview Panther’s Football Head Coach Cameron Porch wanted to show everyone that his inter-squad Black vs Blue game wasn’t just a show. The Panthers came out very physical and showed the Wolfson Wolfpack they worked long and hard all summer as the Panthers put on a 52-20 beating of the Wolfpack.

Porch assessed what the players showed him. “We’re not satisfied, we’re definitely not there, we’re still getting better. We have a long way to go and we are absolutely pleased. It was a great springboard to prepare for the summer, but, we still have a grind to get there.” Asked about the performance of Quarterback Tyler Huff, Porch said “He’s going to be a good one. But we have to stay on him too and not let his head get too big. He played great and he’s going to be great. He’s a warrior, he’s a true leader. He has all the intangibles that you want at the quarterback position, but again, he knows what’s ahead of him and what he needs to get better.” Huff was sharp all night showing maturity at the position with several passes right on mark, hitting receivers in stride. Handoffs to his running backs were on que and there were no fumbles on exchanges. In short situations, Huff threw and could place the ball low and away, allowing only his receivers to grab the ball and get the first down. He scrambled a few times for rushing yards, which shouldn’t be needed too frequently.

The Panthers showed a lot of depth in the running back corps. Trent Colman, Caleb Plyer, Jaiden Turner, Kiaran Turner and Buddha Grey all showed great ability to move the ball at will. Those runs were set up by a bulked up front line that Porch had to comment on. “I can’t brag on those offensive linemen enough. I thought they did a great job. We have a lot of young guys. We’ll only have one senior up front. All spring, they got better every single day and I’m so proud of the guys’ up front. They’ve come so far this year.” On defense, Porch was pleased but knows what he needs to build on before the season opener. “The defense looked good and we obviously have a few things we need to work on. We have to continue to develop some depth at certain spots and I think that’s the task we’ll face this summer; develop the depth in a few key spots but you what? Those young guys got in there in the second half and battled some older guys across from them and I thought they did a heck of a job.”

Charlie Barrett did a perfect job kicking as well. He was 7 for 7 PAT’s and hit a down-the-middle field goal from about the 25 yard line. Barrett did enjoy the minimized pressure of no rushing allowed on the PAT’s and field goal, but his kicks were flawless and went down the middle on a very windy night.

Porch wrapped it up with this: “I always preach family. These guys have bought in. We started the Monday after Thanksgiving break after our season was over and they completely bought in. That’s what we preach is chemistry, being together all year, and family. Like I told them, sometimes you’re going to fight with each other, but that’s what brothers do. No complacency and we have to keep our heads on straight. Sometimes, they just need to hit somebody else is what it boils down to. We beat up on each other all spring and built up our physicality. I think we are a much more physical team now, and confidence is going to be huge for us. I think we built a lot more confidence tonight, so the summer can only build more. “
