Faith walk: Our guardian

The early American Indians had a unique practice of training young braves. On the night of a boy’s thirteenth birthday, after learning about hunting, scouting and fishing skills, he was put to one final test.

He was placed in a dense forest to spend the entire night alone. Until then, he had never been away from the security of the family and tribe. But on this night, he was blindfolded and taken several miles away. When he took off the blindfold he was in darkness in the middle of thick woods. It had to be terrifying. Every time a twig snapped, he visualized a wild animal ready to pounce.

After what seemed like an eternity, dawn broke and the first rays of sunlight entered the interior of the forest. Looking around, the boy saw flowers, trees and the outline of a path. Then to his utter astonishment, he beheld the figure of a man standing just a few feet away, armed with a bow and arrow. It was his father. He had been there all night long watching over his son.

I don’t know if this story is true. My research has not been successful in proving it true, but I love the truth it represents. Even if is not true, it is an illustration of a wonderful truth that all need to know.

Whatever you may be going through, the Lord is watching over you! He is always on guard over your life if you are walking with Him.

Here is a great promise from God’s Word that you can trust.

When you go through deep waters,

I will be with you.

When you go through rivers of difficulty,

you will not drown.

When you walk through the fire of oppression,

you will not be burned up;

the flames will not consume you.

~Isaiah 43:2 NLT
