McCaskill sprints to meet best title

PONTE VEDRA - Fleming Island High senior sprinter Anfernee McCaskill got second in the 100 and won the 200 to garner most outstanding track athlete honors at the Craig Speziale Invite at Ponte Vedra High School on Saturday.

McCaskill topped the field in the 200 with a 22.72 split to edge Simeon Cummings of Robert E. Lee who rushed the line to finish in 22.72. In the 100, McCaskill clocked an 11.26 to get second to Dexter Brown of St. Augustine’s 11.11. Cummings was fifth in the 100.

Also winning was Fleming Island’s Glenn Rogers in the 110 hurdles in a school record 15.36 over Manny Phoulom of St. Augustine’s 15.70.

Fleming Island’s boys 4 x 100 team of Broden Dominico, McCaskill, Aaron Ramirez and Courtney Williams won in 43.90 to hold off Robert E. Lee.

With limited entries, Fleming Island’s boys finished second to Chiles High School, 145.50-66.

At the Bolles Bulldog Classic in Jacksonville, St. Johns Country Day School sophomore hurdler Courtney Sage took second in the 300 hurdles in 46.31 with Orange Park’s John Bear taking ninth in the 800 in 2:00.34. Winner was clocked in 1:54.28. Bear also ran the 1600 taking eighth in 4:28.33.
