FLEMING ISLAND – Oakleaf High School’s girls softball continued its assault on area pitchers as the Lady Knights battered Fleming Island High with two homers and a fistful of doubles in the first two innings of play en route to a 16-0 district 2-8A win Thursday afternoon at Fleming Island High School.
Note: In a Spring Break matchup, Oakleaf High (10-2) won games over defending 2A champions Aucilla Christian, 6-1, and Tallahassee Chiles 14-0 on Sat., March 25 in Tallahassee.
Against Aucilla, pitcher Kelsey Sweatt struck out six batters with Rebecca Koskey hitting two RBIs. as the Knights scored four seventh inning runs. Oakleaf registered 12 hits against Aucilla.
Oakleaf got singles from Tracy Ferguson, Acevedo, Baylee Goddard, Haley Willis and Angela Agurkis in the four run inning.
Against Fleming Island, Oakleaf batters Angela Agurkis and Destiny Pacetti both hit four-base bashes off Fleming Island pitcher Jordan Rosette as the Knights put up two first inning runs, then 11 second inning runs.
Agurkis hit her dinger in the first inning with Madison Mifsud on base off a fielding error to score the game 2-0 with Rebecca Koskey flying out to second baseman Maya Littles and Baylee Goddard grounding out to third baseman Morgan Grimm.
Oakleaf pitcher Madi Davis got hit, but not with power as #5 and Maya Littles got putouts via a fly ball and a grounder to Goddard at third base. Tiffany Steczo would strike out.
In the top of the second, Alex Acevedo led off with a single to left with Haley Willis following with a single to centerfield. Pacetti executed a sacrifice bunt down the first base line to move Acevedo and Willis into scoring position for a two-run single from Tracy Ferguson.
Up 3-0, Mika Garcia got hit with a pitch to load the bases with Mifsud flying out. Two walks; Agurkis and Koskey brought in two more runs, 5-0, before Goddard and Acevedo both unloaded with run scoring doubles and a 9-0 score. An error put Willis back on base before Pacetti blasted a two run single to 12-0.
