CAMDEN COUNTY, GA - With a potentially potent offense on tap with speedster running back KeShawn King and a set of gigantic bookend offensive tackles, the Oakleaf High Knights football got the short end of a Wildcat barrage in Camden County, Ga., as the Camden County High School football team did not show any southern hospitality in both team’s season opener with a 19-6 loss Friday night.

Oakleaf High’s high-potency offense was stymied by a flurry of offensive penalties on top of being unable to break King free off the line of scrimmage. King finished with just 65 yards off 14 carries with a long of just 12 yards with freshman quarterback Walter Simmons losing 28 in scramble mode and fullback Dexter Moore adding just 12 yards on two carries. Oakleaf was also hit for 17 penalty flags.

In the air, Simmons finished with 146 yards on 10 of 25 throws with wideout Jakari Williams his primary target with six catches; one a 75 third quarter score. King and junior slot back Antonio Marshall both caught two balls; Marshall for 18 yards, King for zero yards. Jamaric Bonner had one catch for six yards.

For Camden County, with first year coach Bob Sphire reversing a defensive stat of 44 points per game against from the 2-7 team in 2016, the Wildcats accounted for two interceptions and a fumble recovery to stop Oakleaf drives.

On defense, Camden County running back Jakaree Gadsden, a Raines High transfer, had 89 yards and two scores for the Wildcats who ran a Wing-T offense with plenty of passing. Leading tacklers for the Knights were Dexter Moore, at linebacker with 16 tackles, 12 solos, and Jordan Randall at an outside linebacker slot with 14 tackles, six solos. Defensive ends Mitch Cuthbertson and Chantz Williams both had seven tackles; Williams with one sack. Nose tackle Javier Bovell also registered a sack.

Oakleaf (0-1) travels to Orange Park for the Raiders season opener. Orange Park lost their preseason game to Bishop Kenny, see story, page ???.
