CAMP BLANDING - Oakleaf High football showed off some offensive prowess with running back KeShawn King and wideout Jakari Williams both making big plays in full contact scrimmages at Camp Blanding’s FCA contact camp last week.
The Knights, who faced off against Southwest Miami High and Middleburg High, was able to get downfield very quickly on offensive with freshman quarterback Walter Simmons again at command behind center.
King broke open an inside handoff for a long rain against Middleburg’s inside defense while Williams went tall on an end zone pass against Southwest Miami. Senior fullback Demonte Richmond powered his was on inside handoffs with good results.
On defense, defensive ends Chantz Williams and Mitch Cuthbertson spent more time smashing the outside pass rush and disrupting passing attempts very quickly in both scrimmages. Dexter Moore, in the middle linebacker, was clearly ahead a step or two in reading opposing motions to put his nose on the ball nearly each play.
On the offensive, center Mitch Romig appears to be taking leadership of his five-man group with the veteran seen adjusting steps on the sideline and coaching up his younger compatriots, including big men Jalen Rivers (6-5, 330) and Allan Adams (6-4, 280) at opposite tackle slots offering a huge attack front for King and company. Senior Carson Sams adds another 290 pounds of heft to the bulldoze committee up front.
