GAINESVILLE – Keystone Heights High senior Alex Guy ran his best cross country race with a district title win at the district 5-2A championships held Oct. 27 in Newberry.

Guy, winning with a 16 minutes, 54.33 second split, advances to the region 2-2A championships at Weeki Wachee Preserve on November 3. Top 15 runners from districts advance to regions with top 15 moving to the state meets afterward.

Guy was third in districts last year in 18:17.10 before finishing 36th at regions in 18:07.30.

With five full teams completing the boys race and Keystone Heights finishing third, the entire boys teams advances to regions. Eastside was team champion with 31 points with Santa Fe second with 48 and the Indians third with 55.

Also finishing for the Keystone Heights boys were Tyler Shaw, fourth in 18:00.30; Jerry Payne, 10th in 18:58.32; Jay Payne, 18th in 19:54.56; Joseph Danella, 24th in 21:16.16; Garrett Stanley, 27th in 21:50.85 and Logan Williams, 31st in 23:39.93.

In the girls race, Keystone Heights’ sophomore Camryn Williams finished second in 21:52.05 behind Interlachen junior Kierra Chauncey who won in 21:40.08.

Keystone Heights’ girls had two other runners; junior Danielle Garvey, who finished at 17th in 26:30.13, and seventh grader Jenna Moss, who took 18th in 26:44.32.

Williams will also advance to the region championship race. Williams was fourth at districts last year in 22:13.06, then finished 31st in the region meet in 22:14.40.
