Dual enrollment program boasts 24 grads

KEYSTONE HEIGHTS – While the 2016-17 school year winds to a close, some Keystone Heights High students are getting ready to simultaneously graduate from college.

Here is a look at the 24 students who have completed an associate of arts degree through dual enrollment at Santa Fe College.

Clayton Adkins applied to and will be attending the University of North Florida to pursue a master’s in business degree. He said his experience at Santa Fe College has been incredible. “Every teacher and faculty member I have come in contact with over the past two years have been focused on making sure I succeed in everything I set my head to. I can’t express how grateful I am to have had this amazing opportunity,” Adkins said.

Samantha Anderson wants to be a veterinarian and will be returning to Santa Fe College to earn a bachelor of science degree in biotechnology and then take her studies to the University of Florida.

Oliver Cullen was admitted to the University of Florida and will study history. He said he plans to pursue a doctorate in history to eventually teach at the university level.

Rachel Garvey is attending Florida State University. She is looking forward to a career that involves working with people, perhaps in the area of sports training. She said her experience at Santa Fe College has been awesome. “It’s been so fun,” Garvey said.

Grayson Goolsby dreams of being an athletic trainer and will be studying at the University of Florida. He, ultimately, envisions becoming a doctor. “I’ve had a great experience here. The teachers are great. They are very easy to get in touch with. Class sizes are small,” Goolsby said.

Laken Jones is taking a slightly different route. She will be attending Airline Transport Professionals Flight School in order to become a flight instructor and move onto a commercial airline company as a pilot. She said attending college has been a big part in her life. “I loved every minute,” she said.

Danielle Laraway will pursue a degree in information technology in the fall at the University of Florida. She said she loved everything about her Santa Fe College experience. “I’m glad for the opportunity for it. If you have the option and can handle it, do it,” she said.

Abigail Lesch is a pre-dental major and will be attending the University of Florida.

Sebastian Mallory will attend the University of Florida as an English literature major. He said he plans to teach high school English until his future best-selling novel sells.

Larann Massey is headed to the University of Central Florida and will pursue a degree in either engineering or architecture.

Mykayla McLeod is a communications major and will be pursuing a degree at the University of Florida. She said she envisions being a news broadcaster in the future. She said Santa Fe College was good for transitioning out of high school into college.

Mary Jo Peters is an animal science major and will be attending the University of Florida.

Sarah Pickett will continue her studies in criminal justice at the University of Florida. She said she intends to pursue a career in the Federal Bureau of Investigations as either a special agent or analyst.

Jacob Preseau will finish his pre-requisite requirements for an engineering degree at Santa Fe College before transferring to the University of Florida’s engineering college.

Brody Reed completed more than 82 hours of college credit the past two years. He, too, will attend the University of Florida to pursue a degree in psychology. “I plan to use the experience I gained at Santa Fe (College) to make an obscene amount of money,” Reed said.

Jessica Robbins is returning to Santa Fe College to pursue a second degree in diagnostic medical sonography.

Brialee Singletary is also returning to Santa Fe College to pursue a degree in nursing.

Madison Stanford will attend the University of Florida as a nursing major.

Brent Townsend is going to the University of Florida as a computer science major.

Maura Tran is an engineering physics major and will attend Embry Riddle University. She said she hopes one day to work for NASA. Of her dual enrollment experience, Tran said it was a good experience. “It’s a good idea to ease into the college experience,” she said.

Connor Turner is an agricultural communications major and will earn his degree at the University of Florida. He said he plans to go to law school after completing his bachelor of science degree to learn corporate law. He said attending Santa Fe College has definitely benefitted him, in the long run.

Hailey Turner will return to Santa Fe College to earn a degree in radiography.

Jonathan Valldejuli is the class of 2017 valedictorian. During his high school years, he attended St. Johns River State College, Santa Fe College and the University of Florida having earned his associate of arts degree from Santa Fe College. He completed all of the pre-requisite course requirements for a computer science degree and will be attending Georgia Institute of Technology.
