SPECIAL MAGISTRATE: The Clay County Code Enforcement Special Magistrate Hearing will be May 4, beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the Board of County Commissioners’ meeting room, 4th floor, Administration Building, 477 Houston St., Green Cove Springs. Open to the public.

DERBY DAY: May 5 beginning with 6:15 p.m. social hour with bourbon, mint juleps and sweet tea and 7:30 Southern-style buffet to benefit the programs of the Council on Aging of Clay County. Orange Park Kennel Club, bestbet on Park Avenue in Orange Park with hats and wardrobe judging by Channel 12’s Ken Amaro and Clay County Manager Stephanie Kopelousos. Tickets are $75 each. Dress contest is $10 to enter, $100 cash prize. Also includes Silent Auction.

BUTTERFLY GARDEN: May 6, from 10 a.m. to noon, join the Garden Club of Fleming Island as its members help children 10 and under release more than 300 butterflies during its Annual Butterfly Garden Celebration at the Fleming Island Library, 1895 Town Center Blvd.

BOOK CLUB: May 6 from 10 a.m.-noon discussing “Not Carved in Stone” by Craig Shier. Trouble descends on a quiet medieval village when a new abbey church collapses during construction and two men die. All are welcome. Fleming Island Library, 1895 Town Center Blvd. (904) 278-3722.

BOOK SALE: May 6 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., sponsored by the Friends of the Green Cove Springs Library, will be held under tents on the front lawn of the Library at 403 Ferris St./State Road 16.
