Theatre company goes on the road
ORANGE PARK – While it’s searching for a permanent home, Clamour Theatre Company is taking its shows on the road, so to speak.
On April 27, Clamour brings together a group of actors who will read five fun and thought-provoking short plays by writers from around the country that will take you through all of life's stages as you listen and watch.
The program, aptly dubbed “Ages and Stages,” begins at 6 pm at the Courtyard by Marriott at 610 Wells Rd. in Orange Park. Admission is free, but reservations are required. Reservation can be made on Eventbrite.com.
The featured playwrights are Rachel Bublitz, Daniel Guyton, Marj O'Neill Butler, Rich Orloff, and Cary Pepper and the actors are Milan Alley, David Girard, Rhodie Jackson, Anne Kraft, Blythe Scott and Eric Yarham.
Earlier this year, Clamour was the proud recipient of the seats in the old Clay Theatre in Green Cove Springs. Artistic Director Elaine Smith had been hoping to buy the theatre building to set up shop there, but it was purchased by another owner who has big plans for the space.
The Community Foundation for Northeast Florida gave Clamour a grant from its Arts Ventures Endowment Fund to allow conduct an organization assessment. And the Paul E. and Klare N. Reinhold Foundation funded the tuition for Smith and several board members to attend leadership training programs offered by the Edyth Bush Institute for Philanthropy & Nonprofit Leadership at Rollins College.
Clamour’s historical play, Passing the Baton, which was originally thought would be a one-off, has proven to be unexpectedly popular. Dr. Applegate, played by Michael Zelenka, has told his life story twice this year – for the Historical Society of Penney Farms and at the Village Improvement Association's 135th Anniversary Celebration.
A third presentation scheduled for April 19 for the women’s group of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church at the River Park Inn.

Raftery returns at Penney Memorial
PENNEY FARMS – A longtime favorite for Penney Retirement Community members returns for another performance at Penney Memorial Church this month.
Mitch Raftery performs April 15 at 7 p.m. in the church sanctuary at 4465 Poling Blvd.
Last year, Raftery performed his one-man show to a full house. While performing, he sits on the piano bench almost sideways so he can communicate with the audience as he sings, plays and talks. His performance includes sacred and secular music and a bit of cabaret.
Raftery was born and educated in Nebraska and moved to New York City as a young university graduate to “make it in the Big Apple.” And that’s just what he did.
Raftery is a performer, director, music director and educator. He is the resident music director for White Apron Productions and the Children's Acting Academy, both based in Manhattan. His first one-man cabaret production, “Mitch Raftery the Musical,” performed to a sold out audience at the Duplex piano bar in Greenwich Village. He also performs, directs and accompanies many musicals, cabaret productions and readings throughout the city.
